The first spark of inspiration for the unique ARABOR tripod stand came to life in Angola, Africa in 1982. In the seven years since that country gained in independence from Portugal, it had invited many foreigners to work, explore, and experience the unique culture. My father was one of them. He worked in Angola at that time, and I was lucky enough to spend a year there as a five-year-old child.

The impressions I got and the memories I made have stuck with me over the years and have inspired me to create unique products that ARABOR now offers. One piece crafted by highly skilled artisans was a wooden tripod table that could fold up and expand in moments to support a study top. These were carved from one single piece of wood that intertwined and interconnected in such unique ways. I marveled at the ingenuity and, as I grew and returned to the United States, I revisited the design again and again.

How could I use modern techniques to re-envision this tripod table into a product more accessible to people all around the world? I tried numerous times to create a similar item but could not find the best methods or techniques until I looked into the world of 3D design, modeling, and printing.

The intertwined tripod stand finally came to life. The power of 3D printing made it possible to create something that I had imagined for many years. It took considerable trial and error to perfect the design for this intertwined stand that supports up to 25 pounds of weight and complements any home decor style. With a nod to its Angolan roots, I sought to re-envision the look for modern audience. It took until 2021 to perfect the three-dimensional design and modeling process in order to start production of our products. The combination of technology and fluid style is one I am proud to offer to customers in the United States and around the world.
